This apartment is huge–living room, dining room, three bedrooms, entrance hall, high ceilings, tall windows. It is well equipped and comfortably furnished. It is on the second floor, so there is some stair climbing, but nothing hard; my wife walks with a cane but managed with no trouble. Guaranteed parking is available–it was 10€/day when we were there–in a garage about five minutes’ walk from the apartment.
Before our trip, I used the Mac maps app (called Maps) to show a 3-D view of the area around the apartment. Try it! The cathedral is down the street, about five minutes; the city hall (Hôtel de Ville) three minutes; the big pedestrian street, Place Drouet-d’Erlon, with its restaurants and stores and huge Monoprix supermarket, is about 10 minutes away. Boulangerie, Charcuterie, Boucherie, Monoprix minimarket, and ATM, about five minutes. I learned that the neighborhood is quite expensive. There is traffic during the day, but in early morning and evenings it is almost deserted and very quiet. I felt very safe.
The landlord, Thierry, is an amazing host. After I emailed him a couple of times from the USA because I was worried about parking, he telephoned from France (!) to reassure me and set up a very flexible arrangement
for us to meet at the apartment. Of course, we got lost and stuck in traffic between Charles de Gaulle airport and Reims, and we arrived about two hours later than promised. Thierry drove to the apartment immediately, and cheerfully showed us around, even though the late hour must have been very inconvenient for him. He was unfailingly helpful later in our stay when I had to call with little emergencies (hint: make a note of the street name where your car is garaged).
We visited northern France in large part because of our interest in World War I history. It turned out that Thierry was in charge of the commemorative festivities on Armistice Day, Nov 11. He pointed us to the memorial ceremony at the WW I monument, and invited us to a reception at the City Hall. It was an amazing day.
(For those who plan to visit Reims for wine & champagne, I might add that Thierry produces and exports wine.)
To sum up–wonderful apartment, location, and host.
Fabulous apartment in the centre of Reims
We stayed in this gorgeous apartment for 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer! Very spacious, comfortable 3 queen bedrooms. Would easily sleep 3 couples. Large dining table and lounge room. Well equipped kitchen with oven, cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, and all the crockery, glassware etc. A short walk to the cathedral, restaurants, supermarket. We would definitely stay again, highly recommended!
Lovely apartment in Great Location
I vacationed with my family in Reims in June. This apartment was perfect. It is located 5 minutes walk from the cathedral, 10 minutes from the train station and 10 minutes from several champagne houses. Thierry was very kind, courteous and accommodating. He met us promptly with a key and gave us many tips on the surrounding area. We are definitely returning to Reims and will request this accommodation again.
